Doris, a 15-year-old school netball player, trains 4 times a week. Her normal food intake maintains her weight at 48kg. Recently, a McDonald’s fast food restaurant opens near her home. After her netball training, Doris now has a daily routine in which she will consume an upsize (bigger portion) meal for lunch, consisting of a main course, fries, and a drink. She chooses not to have the same main course within the same week. The rest of her diet remains unchanged.
 1) Assumptions made by our group regarding this:
• Doris will eat different sets of meals everyday in each week for McDonald’s
• Her activity factor (very active sine she has netball training 4 times a week), which refers to the rate of exercise, does not change
• She will consume one upsized McDonald’s once everyday
• She will only eat the things in the excel spreadsheet menu we created
• The rest of her diet (what she eats apart from McDonald’s) will be 1550 calories
• The total calorie intake for her diet before she had her new McDonald’s diet was 1500
• The total calorie intake we calculated for her is correct
• The total calories that she needs daily is 2318 calories
• Her height is 176cm
• She did not burn any calories when there wasn’t netball training
• There are only 8 weeks in the two months
 • She has netball training 4 times a week every week

• According to what we have found on the Internet, if you consume more calories than your body needs, you will gain weight. We calculated that Doris’s changed diet, which includes upsized meals from McDonald’s, increases her calorie consumption to more than that of what she needs.
• If Doris consumed an upsized meal from McDonald's everyday and also have the same two meals of her old diet, she will gain a total of 17215 calories per week. For example, she has McDonald for lunch but still has the same breakfast and dinner she used to have.
• A McSpicy Single (Whole Muscle), an upsized french fries (Large), an upsized Coke (Large, 32Oz) will cause her to consume 1336 calories.
• A McChicken, an upsized french fries (Large), an upsized coke (Large, 32Oz) will cause her to consume 1146 calories.
• A Fillet-O-Fish, an upsized french fries (Large), an upsized coke (Large, 32Oz) will cause her to consume 1102 calories.
• A Big Mac, an upsized french fries (Large), an upsized coke (Large, 32Oz) will cause her to consume 1273 calories.
• A Quarter-pounder with Cheese, an upsized french fries (Large), an upsized coke (Large, 32Oz) will cause her to consume 1259 calories.
• A cheeseburger, an upsized french fries (Large), an upsized coke (Large, 32Oz) will cause her to consume 1049 calories
• A hamburger, an upsized french fries (Large), an upsized coke (Large, 32Oz) will cause her to consume 1000 calories.
• Doris burnt 1800 calories from her netball training every week and took in another 10850 calories for her other meals in a week, thus, her calories intake during the two months will be 137720. The total calories she will need in that two months would be 129808. That is going to cause her weight to increase after two months, as the amount of calories she consumed is more than that of what she needs. This effect would carry on and on as we assumed that her activity factor would not change so she still burns the same amount of calories and her calorie intake remains the same.
• However, if Doris took the standard meal in McDonald’s (not upsized), she will be unlikely to gain a lot of weight. The standard meal would be a better choice, as Doris will take in fewer calories from the food.
• A McSpicy Single (Whole Muscle), a small french fries, a small coke (16Oz), will cause her to consume 974 calories.
• A McChicken, a small french fries, a small coke (16Oz), will cause her to consume 784 calories.
• A Fillet-O-Fish, a small french fries, a small coke (16Oz), will cause her to consume 740 calories.
• A Big Mac, a small french fries, a small coke (16Oz), will cause her to consume 911 calories.
• A Quarter Pounder with Cheese, a small french fries, a small coke will cause her to consume 897 calories
• A cheeseburger, a small french fries, a small coke (16Oz) will cause her to gain 687 calories.
• A hamburger, a small french fries, a small coke (16Oz) will cause her to gain 638 calories.
• Doris burns 1800 calories from her netball trainings and takes in 10850 calories from meals besides those from McDonald’s. Thus she will consume 117448 calories after 2 months. The total calories she will need in that two months would be 129808.Therefore, Doris will not even gain weight as the amount of calories she consumed is less than that of what she needs which is different from when she was on the diet with McDonald’s upsized meal. Thus, the difference is that Doris will not gain any weight on the diet with the standard McDonald’s menu but she would gain weight on the upsized McDonald’s menu.
• If Doris chooses the ‘healthier’ meal in Subway, she is going to take in 14822 calories, including the 1800 calories she burns during training every week and the 10850 calories she takes in for meals besides from Subway’s.
• A meatball marinara, a chocolate chip cookie, a coke will cause her to consume 871 calories.
• A Spicy Italian, a chocolate chip cookie, a coke, will cause her to consume 898 calories.
• A tuna sandwich, a chocolate chip cookie, a coke, will cause her to gain 908 calories.
• An egg mayo sandwich, a chocolate chip cookie, a coke, will cause her to gain 875 calories.
• A sweet onion chicken teriyaki, a chocolate chip cookie, a coke will cause her to gain 604 calories.
• A cold cut combo, a chocolate chip cookie, a coke will cause her to gain 789 calories.
• An Italian BMT, a chocolate chip cookie, a coke will cause her to gain 827 calories.
• The amount of calories she consumes in two months would be 118576. The amount of calories she would consume on a diet of McDonald’s standard menu would be 117448 after two months and the amount of calories she would consume on a diet of McDonald’s upsized menu would be 137720 calories. Therefore, we can conclude that the subway diet is not necessarily healthier than the McDonald’s standard menu but is healthier than the McDonald’s upsized menu.

3) Conclusion
• We searched for information on the Internet and did some calculations by adding up the calories she takes in for every meal in McDonald’s and Subway. Then, we analyzed the data. To make the data more reliable, we included her activity factor, her daily calories needed, the daily amount of calories she takes in besides from the meals in McDonald’s and Subway, and the amount of calories she used to take in before McDonald’s and Subway for comparison. So overall, we discovered that if Doris takes upsized meals from McDonald's for 2 months, she is going to consume 137720 calories and gain weight. This effect would carry on. Also, we found out that she would not gain any weight if she eats standard (not upsized) food from McDonald's. We also found out that eating food from Subway is not necessarily healthier than the food from McDonald's standard menu but it is definitely healthier than the McDonald's upsized menu.
